Work has begun on the new urban park near the residential complex by the city’s green market
The implementation of the newest project, PARKS, has officially started in Kriva Palanka. The Municipality of Kriva Palanka is carrying out the project in partnership with the Municipality of Dupnitsa, within the framework of the INTERREG–IPA Cross-Border Programme of the European Union for cooperation between North Macedonia and Bulgaria.
The Mayor of Kriva Palanka, Sashko Mitovski, together with representatives from the municipal technical services, conducted an on-site inspection of the launch of construction activities, where the contractor “Konstruktor” was formally introduced to begin work.
The total value of the project is €895,000, of which €388,000 are allocated for Kriva Palanka. These funds will support the construction of a new urban green park that will bring a landscape transformation to the entire area.
“Today, we introduced the contractor who will carry out on-site activities to develop a modern green park over an area of 1,800 m², with horticultural features and a modern urban appearance. In addition to the landscaping, as part of the project, we are installing air quality monitoring sensors for the first time, and Kriva Palanka will receive its first green cadastre for the urban area. This location will undergo a full landscape transformation. As a local government, we continue to invest in and enhance the municipality, with a focus on new ecological solutions for a sustainable city with a modern urban character,” said Mayor Mitovski.
The PARKS project – “Preservation of Areas through Regional Knowledge and Sustainability” – includes activities in Kriva Palanka such as a pedological (soil) analysis, training for the local population in green space maintenance, and the publication of a manual for growing ornamental plants.
This project will open a new chapter in the ecological planning of the city, connecting ecology and technology for a sustainable urban municipality.
The project’s main goal is to increase green infrastructure in the cross-border region—in both Kriva Palanka and Dupnitsa—by revitalizing urban zones through green parks, vibrant green spaces, and the use of advanced technology for ongoing environmental monitoring.
